Matters of Conscience for Christian Scientists

Christian Scientists from around the world — loyal members who deeply love The Mother Church — have developed this site and are working together to restore the primary focus for the Church of Christ, Scientist. They are committed to defending the integrity of the Church founded by Mary Baker Eddy and to helping preserve the authentic practice of Christ-healing as taught by her.

There are three main areas on this site. Throughout, you can click on the tabs at the top of any page to go to a particular section. Briefly, these are the main areas:

Matters of Conscience includes an overview of the actions taken in accord with the requirements of Article I, Section 9, of the Church Manual, including correspondence and narrative of the events that have followed as the steps of the Matthew Code have been carried out.

Keeping the Promise is the name of a pledge to work for the purity of Christian Science, greater Church unity, and individual spiritual growth. In 2004, members of The Mother Church were given an opportunity to sign this pledge as a response to the reforms called for in Matters of Conscience. A further explanation of this activity can be found here.

Church Renewal features strong metaphysical support from articles in the bound volumes focusing on Church, and inspiring conversations among Christian Scientists committed to the Church Mrs. Eddy established. The healing practice of pure Christian Science is the focus.

There are many other areas of content on this site. To see what they are, please use the site map. The navigation of this site is simple and the pages are easily printable. The Article I, Section 9, complaint "Matters of Conscience" is not available on this Web site. Mother Church members can request a copy by affirming their membership and providing their mailing address.

An Important Letter to the Field On November 6, 2006, a letter addressed to Mother Church members was mailed to the Field. It was written by the two teachers who have been disciplined for following the Matthew Code. This letter updates members on meetings with the Christian Science Board of Directors in which the Directors declared their exemption from being subject to the Matthew Code. Further unprecedented statements by the Directors have serious implications for the future of our Church and its government. Read the latest letter and review the narrative of events since the complaint was filed in 2002.
